Wedding details like the venue, the DJ or band and even the beautiful dress, these things are chosen to suit one particular day, but your wedding rings, well they're something you choose for the rest of your lives! Once the wonderful, joyous big day is over, it becomes a memory, but your wedding bands will be with you, day in, day out, forever.
That’s why we advise our lovely couples to take a little extra time and choose wisely, and maybe just read our two blogs for some tips about choosing the perfect wedding ring.
Today, Tomorrow and Forever
While the engagement ring is the outgoing, fun and flamboyant part of the pairing, the wedding ring is the slightly more serious and practical of the two. Like any couple, the two types of ring must work together, balance and complement one another, so as the engagement ring has been the first to adorn the wedding finger, the wedding band needs to be a perfect match.
When you’re selecting your wedding ring, it’s important not to forget that you'll be wearing it every day for the rest of your life, so make sure you feel comfortable wearing it and it’s a good match for your regular lifestyle and look. For instance, if you’re a bit of a laid-back, bohemian dresser day-to-day, don’t go for something that’s unbelievably flamboyant and over the top opulent wedding ring, because it just won’t look right on you.
Size DOES Matter!
Obviously, every ring you buy needs to be the correct size for your finger (or thumb!), but getting your wedding ring to fit you perfectly is even more crucial as it’s one of the two most important and costly rings you’ll ever wear. After all, if a normal ring is too large or small, you can always pop it onto a different finger, whereas your wedding ring must be exactly the right size to fit your ring finger. And, if they’re too big, both your wedding and engagement rings could fall off and become lost; too small and you’ll be taking them off all the time because they hurt, and they could easily disappear as well.
Our advice is that you visit a jewellers’ and ask them to measure your ring finger. You can even do this with your partner while you’re in town and have both done, usually for free and in a matter of seconds. Once this is done, the jeweller will be able to recommend the perfect ring sizes for both of you and you’ll be able to refer back to it when the time comes to buy the rings!
Just a small note is that, when taken off and put back on frequently, rings can become distorted and lose their shape, so we recommend that you purchase a couple of ring cones. These won’t just help your rings to retain their integrity, they’ll also be a great place to store them so they won’t get lost!
Complement Your Style
Sometimes less is more, and a traditional design such as an unpretentious gold, platinum or silver band can be the very best choice for your wedding rings. Minimalism is really de rigueur right now, and never really goes out of fashion. Plus the fact, minimalistic wedding bands can’t fail to complement and balance most types of engagement ring.
However, we’d always advise you and your partner to keep an open mind when it comes to choosing the style of your wedding rings because you really never can tell what you might encounter when you step inside the jeweller’s store. On-trend designs at the moment include contour and infinity bands, as well as those with tiny diamond clusters all around the band itself.
Really, the only limits on the design of your wedding rings are your imagination and your budget, so do some research and think outside the (wedding ring presentation) box!
Words That Mean the World
Your wedding rings will mean the world to you and your intended. They symbolise the love and respect you have for each other, and are a permanent reminder of the unbreakable bond you share. But, to make them even more personal and unique to the two of you, you could have them both engraved with a message that means a lot to you both.
Many ring manufacturers offer to engrave rings inside the band for a very minimal fee. After all, you’ve just spent a considerable sum on the rings themselves, so they should be falling over themselves to accommodate you in any way possible!
Maybe think about having a romantic message engraved inside your rings; something significant that’s meaningful only to yourself and your partner, but make certain it’s something you can both live with forevermore.
