Want to Overcome Covid?

Of course you do, because you might be one of the couples for whom the Coronavirus pandemic really couldn’t have come at a worse time. Indeed, while the pandemic has disrupted wedding plans for some couples, for others it has been necessary to cancel their big day altogether. We all know weddings are very expensive, and the fact that Covid-19 has, directly or indirectly, brought about millions of layoffs and redundancies, hasn’t helped matters matrimonial either.

However, thanks to a combination of human ingenuity, amazing new technology and a liberal dose of bulldog spirit, some UK couples have been overcoming Covid’s obstacles and tying the knot regardless. How? By live streaming their wedding ceremony; broadcasting it to the people who would have been there in person, were it not for this horrible bug!

You'll be happy to discover that we have another blog in this series, outlining ways to overcome Covid, so take a look at that after reading about the best platforms on which to stream your wedding ceremony!

Choose the Right Platform for You!

Here are some of the best platforms and some info about what you can achieve with each:

There are a number of options when it comes to choosing a suitable platform to live stream your big day to your friends and family. These include Skype, Zoom, Google Hangout, FaceTime and Facebook, but beware because each has its own restrictions and limitations.

Zoom is, in our opinion, one of the best platforms to use for this kind of endeavour as it will enable you to broadcast on a private cloud. However, the free version of Zoom will limit your call to just 40 minutes with an audience of up to 100 “guests.” You’ll probably be wanting more time, in which case there’s Zoom Pro which, at just £11.99, has some great benefits including the ability to record your ceremony for posterity, in the cloud!

Google Hangouts

Google Hangout also comes free-of-charge, but with only 25 people able to join the ceremony, it might not be sufficient for the size of your guest-list. You can, however, upgrade to what’s known as the Basic Plan, which will allow for up to 250 people to participate in the ceremony. At the time we’re writing this, Google is offering a 14-day free trial period, but we’d advise you to check on this rather than assume it’s still in operation.

Facebook’s live streaming service won’t cost you a penny either, and the great thing about it is that there’s no limit to the number of guests you can broadcast to, and it gives you up to 8 hours of live streaming.

While Skype used to be the go-to name for live chat and streaming, its group video option is free but it will limit the number of your guests to just 50 with no opportunity to upgrade.

 Apple FaceTime

Apple offers what’s called Group FaceTime and it comes free too. Group Face Time will enable up to 32 guests to participate in your wedding ceremony, BUT they ALL have an Apple device such as an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with which to do so!

Depending on the service you use, you may be able to record the video on the platform (as with Zoom) or on YouTube, which will allow you and your guests to watch it at any point in the future, which will be absolutely fantastic!

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life!

And, looking on the positive side, just THINK how much you’ll save on food, drinks, reception venue hire and entertainment by streaming your ceremony live, online! Why, you could spend the savings on a lavish honeymoon in the Maldives or Bora Bora…y’know, provided the airports are open and planes are flying!
